KEYS FOR COLLECTORS

  • This set was sold on the Shop at Home Network in 1997
  • Robert Levin of Star led the public to believe these cards had been locked in a warehouse for over 10 years and were finally being released.
  • However, the set was actually produced in 1997, without an NBA license. Star and Levin were subsequently sued by the NBA.
  • The set features 9 cards of players on the USA Olympic basketball team (including one Michael Jordan). The cards have blue borders. Patrick Ewing #2 is the most desirable card in the set, after Jordan of course.
  • One of the images (a group shot) is also part of the Jordan Olympic Shop at Home Set, while the remaining images are new and were not released in any earlier licensed Star sets. Each card has ‘1984 Gold Medalist’ text on the bottom of the front.

This set features all the players from the 1984 USA men’s basketball team at the Olympics. The set also features one card of Michael Jordan.

Like all other Star sets, these were released in bags as shown below.

1997 Shop At Home Olympics Bagged Set

All Shop at Home sets were issued with a letter from Robert Levin, founder of Star. All letters were written very similarly, all claiming that these sets were unearthed from storage when, in fact, Levin had unlawfully printed them in 1997. This is a letter for the red Jordan Olympics set, but they are all basically the same.
