KEYS FOR COLLECTORS

  • This set was sold on the Shop at Home Network in 1997
  • Robert Levin of Star led the public to believe these cards had been locked in a warehouse for over 10 years and were finally being released.
  • However, the set was actually produced in 1997, without an NBA license. Star and Levin were subsequently sued by the NBA.
  • The set features 11 cards of the previous year’s NBA rookie of the year award winners (including one Michael Jordan). The cards have white borders and red text. The original (licensed) version of this set was issued in 1985 and features white borders with blue text.
  • The original (licensed) set also had 11 cards.
  • The images used between the licensed (blue text) and this Shop at Home (red text) version vary but some are the same as noted below.

This set features the last 11 Rookie of the Year award winners from the NBA. The set also features one card of Michael Jordan.

Like all other Star sets, these were released in bags as shown below.

1985 Star Last 11 ROY Jordan

This is where things get a bit confusing when it comes to Jordan images. The original, licensed Last 11 ROY Jordan photo shown on the left is used in the 1997 Shop At Home ’85 Star Jordan Olympic set. The image used for the Shop At Home Last 11 ROY Jordan (on right in red text) is the original image used in the 1985-86 Star All-Rookie set (which had a red border).

All Shop at Home sets were issued with a letter from Robert Levin, founder of Star. All letters were written very similarly, all claiming that these sets were unearthed from storage when, in fact, Levin had unlawfully printed them in 1997. This is a letter for the red Jordan Olympics set, but they are all basically the same.
